June became a month of solace for my family and me. We were able to take a couple of trips, one with extended family and one just the 5 of us. We saw wonderful things—wildlife, scenery, history. But we also had a lot of fun. Just last week, I was able to take some time to sit on the beach, just me, for a little while. I was once again overpowered by the size of the ocean and its might. The sky was beautiful as the sun set behind me, and the colors never get old. The coarse sand seemed to go on forever in each direction. It was a lot to take in, and honestly it never gets old considering such things.
I know it sounds obvious, but it’s a big ocean. There’s no telling how many drops are in it; how many drops it takes to fill it from one side of the planet to the other. And the sand, how many individual pieces make up the beaches and the sea floor. Who can count it all?
“I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore…”. –Genesis 22.17
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” –Luke 12.6-7
God can count it all. In fact, God doesn’t have to because He already knows how many stars there are since He put them there; right along with the grains of sand on every beach, and in every desert. God knows every sparrow, every crow, every cardinal. God knows you, and He knows me. He’s intimately familiar with every hair on every head that was, is, and is to come.
My point is that God is an intimate God, knowing you from the inside-out. There isn’t anything He’s not familiar with, there’s nothing He doesn’t understand, nothing that is going to catch Him off guard. He’s close—closer than anyone or anything could ever be. If He is THAT familiar with it all, especially that familiar with you and with me, than why not trust Him with whatever is on your heart today? Whatever worry, whatever care; whatever pain you have or pain you’ve caused, we can trust Him today.
I urge you to become intimate with the God who is infinitesimally intimate with you. There’s so much hope to receive, so much peace to have, so much joy to experience because God is intimate with you and me.
