Taste

Jul 16, 2026 | Whit's End, Updates

As a southerner, we’re usually on the search for the best banana pudding or peach cobbler. We’re very proud over homemade sausage gravy, and we’ll fight over who’s got the best biscuit. But even as a Georgia boy, I’m usually on the search for the best pizza. We’ve got some great local places and folks have their opinions.

Recently, while on vacation in Saint Simons, my family got pizza from Sal’s. In our opinion, it’s the best pizza around—both on and off the island. When we got it back home we decided to eat it poolside. I opened it up and started divvying out slices. We went with extra cheese and half Italian sausage. I took one bite and yes, I made that all-too-frequent comment, “Y’all, this is the best pizza I’ve ever had.” Now, I wish I could describe to you why it felt different this time. There was something about it, and I’m glad I got to taste it. It’s just a shame that you can’t taste the picture that I’ve included in this write-up!

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” —Psalms 34.8 NIV

Though the pizza is out of your reach, the Lord is not. Nothing compares to the goodness of God and the blessing that comes from knowing Him personally in your heart. He’s the Father who cares, the Son who forgives, the Spirit who empowers and stays close. To know God is to know the greatest of all things—the greatest of all blessings, of all goodness, of all satisfaction. But don’t simply take my word for it; come and taste and see for yourself. Thats the point of all evangelism, of all witnessing, of all testifying to our experience with God. For those who may lack the “flavor” I’m talking about, for those who may not have had that experience, I invite you to talk with me or another who knows that satisfaction. We CAN lead you to living water, but…you will have to be the one to drink it, to taste and see that the Lord is good.
